Where The Grass Grows Greener

Fertilizer salesman from the city,
Comes no more. Such a shame! Such a pity!
Many times the Fertilizer Man came round,
To our farm on his way to town.
Told Pa, fertilizer he should be a-buyin'.
Makes the grass grow greener, without even tryin'.
Pa was always in the field a-hoein'.
He had no way of ever knowin'
What Sis and the Fertilizer Man were a-doin'
In the barn, while the cows were a-mooin'.
When Sis' tummy became big, Fertilizer Man didn't linger,
Hightailed it to town. No ring for her finger.
Mary Lou cried and fretted,"No wedding plans!"
Pa, fumin' and a-cussin' left with pitchfork in hand.
Fertilizer Man from the city.
Saw him no more, what a shame and such a pity!
"Talk about fertilizer, it works", Pa says.
"I tried it." He nods and scratches his head.
Up in the far field, though the shoots are leaner,
In one spot, by golly, the grass sure grows greener.
